Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for the Convergence Portal

Effective May 2, 2024, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) will be implementing Multi-Factor Authentication as a mandatory requirement for Convergence Portal access, as required by Government of Canada security policies.

The implementation of MFA will ensure compliancy with Government of Canada Cloud Guardrails, providing an additional layer of protection to our research community while improving the Agencies’ overall cyber security posture.


Using the Multifactor Authentication Feature in Convergence


Existing Users:

Step 1

On the Convergence log in page, enter your username and password

Step 2

Click 'Login'

Step 3

Select your method – Email, phone, or authenticator app

Step 4

Upon registering your method you will receive a verification code

Step 5

Save your email, phone or authenticator app

Step 6

You will be redirected to the Convergence login screen


New Users:

Step 1

On the Convergence log in page, click "create account"

Step 2

Create a username and password

Step 3

Save your account

Step 4

Select your method – Email, phone, or authenticator app

Step 5

Upon registering your method you will receive a verification code

Step 6

Save your method

Step 7

You will then be redirected to the Convergence login screen


Resetting Convergence Account Password:

Step 1

In the Convergence login screen, click 'Forgot my password' and follow the steps to reset your password. If this fails, please contact Web Support.

Step 2

Enter your email address.

Step 3

You will receive a link to reset your password in your email.

Step 4

Create a new password.
